Elaphiti Islands from Dubrovnik: How to Visit Without a Tour

Short answer

You can visit Koločep, Lopud and Šipan without a tour on Jadrolinija's public boat, line 807, which leaves from Gruž port in Dubrovnik. A one-way adult ticket costs EUR 3.40 from 28 September to 31 December 2026 and EUR 5.40 in the summer season. Tickets are sold for a specific departure, online, in the mJadrolinija app or at the Jadrolinija sales point in Gruž, and you should be at the port 45 minutes before departure. On the current timetable, boats leave Dubrovnik at 10:00, 14:00, 16:30 and 20:00 from Monday to Saturday, and at 09:30 and 20:00 on Sundays and holidays, reaching Koločep in 30 minutes, Lopud in 55 minutes and Suđurađ on Šipan in 1 hour 15 minutes.

Ticket, line 807 (2026) Price
Adult, Dubrovnik to Koločep, Lopud or Suđurađ, off-season EUR 3.40 one way
Adult, same routes, summer season EUR 5.40 one way
Children under 1 Free, no ticket issued
Children aged 1 to 3 Free, with a ticket
Bicycle Same price as a passenger ticket
Pets Free

In 2026 the off-season price applied from 1 January to 28 May and from 28 September to 31 December, and the summer price from 29 May to 27 September. The ticket price is the same in both directions.

Which islands can you visit?

The Elaphiti Islands lie just off the coast of Dubrovnik. The three main islands are Koločep, known locally as Kalamota, Lopud and Šipan, and the Dubrovnik Tourist Board describes them as a relaxing day trip from the city, with unspoiled beaches, historic sites and Mediterranean vegetation.

  • Koločep is the first stop, 30 minutes from Dubrovnik. Its beaches at Gornje Čelo and Donje Čelo are both sand.
  • Lopud is the second stop. Šunj, its best-known beach, is sand. The Tourist Board suggests renting a bike or kayak on Lopud, or hiking up to the medieval Franciscan monastery for the view.
  • Šipan is the last stop on line 807, at the village of Suđurađ. The Tourist Board lists gravel beaches at Suđurađ and Priježba. Libertas, the Dubrovnik bus company, runs a bus line on Šipan, and its timetable is on the Libertas website.

Local tip: all three islands are worth a visit, but if you only have one day, go to Lopud. It has the most to see and do of the three.

Local tip: outside the summer season, most restaurants and cafés on the islands are closed, so bring food and water with you.

On the afternoon boat from Monday to Saturday, Jadrolinija notes that the departure from Lopud to Dubrovnik is at 15:00.

For a day trip on this timetable: take the 10:00 boat from Monday to Saturday or the 09:30 on Sundays, and come back on the last boat, which leaves Lopud at 18:10 (18:20 on Sundays) and reaches Dubrovnik at 19:05 (19:15 on Sundays). That gives you roughly seven hours on the islands.

In summer 2026 the Monday to Saturday departures from Dubrovnik stayed the same, and from 3 July to 30 August Sundays had four departures instead of two. The timetable changes with the season, so check the current one on jadrolinija.hr before you travel.

How to buy tickets

Line 807 is one of the Jadrolinija lines where tickets are sold for a specific departure time, which guarantees you a place on that boat. You can buy them:

  • on the Jadrolinija website
  • in the mJadrolinija app
  • at the Jadrolinija sales point in Gruž port

Jadrolinija sells tickets on board only in exceptional cases, when the sales point is closed. You do not need to print an e-ticket; you can show it on your phone. Jadrolinija asks passengers on these lines to arrive at the port at least 45 minutes before departure.

A ticket can be cancelled up to the departure time printed on it, with a 10% cancellation fee. Children under 12 cannot travel alone on Jadrolinija's local lines.

Local tip: in July and August, buy your ticket at least a day in advance. Boats can be fully booked, and you cannot board without a ticket for that departure.

Other ways to get there

TP Line catamaran to Šipanska Luka. The TP Line fast catamaran 9807 from Dubrovnik to Mljet, Korčula and Lastovo also stops at Šipanska Luka, the second village on Šipan. A one-way ticket from Dubrovnik costs EUR 4.00 off-season and EUR 5.95 in the summer season. On the 2026 timetable the catamaran leaves Dubrovnik in the afternoon or evening and, on most days, leaves Šipanska Luka for Dubrovnik early in the morning, so it suits an overnight stay on Šipan, not a day trip.

Europa Line boat to Koločep. Europa Line, a private operator, runs a boat from Gruž to Gornje Čelo on Koločep. Its 2026 timetable shows departures from Gruž at 06:30 and 16:30 from Monday to Friday and at 09:00 and 16:30 at weekends, and the operator says boats run only when a minimum number of passengers is met.

With a car. Jadrolinija also runs car ferry line 831 on the same route. Vehicles cannot be loaded or unloaded at Lopud.

Where does the Elaphiti ferry leave from? From Gruž, Dubrovnik's main port, not from the Old Port in the Old Town.

Do I need to book the Elaphiti ferry in advance? Yes. Tickets are sold for a specific departure and guarantee your place. In July and August, buy at least a day ahead, online, in the mJadrolinija app or at the Gruž sales point.

Where should I stay in Dubrovnik?

For a first visit, stay in or right next to the Old Town, in Pile or Ploče, so you can walk to the sights and the city beach at Banje. For a beach holiday, choose Lapad or Babin Kuk, west of the Old Town, where many of the city's hotels, the Lapad Bay promenade and family beaches such as Copacabana are, with city buses to Pile Gate. Gruž, the port district, is the practical choice if you are catching ferries to the islands or buses out of the city. Cavtat, a separate town outside Dubrovnik, is much closer to the airport and connected to the city by bus and by boat.

How do I get from Dubrovnik Airport to the Old Town?

The easiest way is the official Platanus shuttle bus. It costs EUR 10 one way, leaves about 30 minutes after every arriving flight and stops at Ploče Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town, roughly 30 minutes later. A taxi costs around EUR 40 to 60 and makes sense for groups or heavy luggage. The airport is 22.5 km from Dubrovnik, and the drive usually takes 30 to 35 minutes, or up to an hour in summer.
